Wickiup Station Featured in The Bend Bulletin

The Bend Bulletin ran an article about Wickiup Station, calling it “one of La Pine’s first affordable apartment complexes” and discussing the significance of the apartments for the veterans and low-income residents now calling it home.

The article walked through the scope of the project: 39 completed units, with 10 set aside for veterans, and ground-floor units built fully ADA-accessible. It noted that Wickiup Station is in the first of a planned four-phase development process that will eventually bring more than 130 apartments to the area for households below the area median income, with the third phase reserved specifically for seniors.

The coverage also contained quotes from some Foundation for Affordable Housing (FFAH) principals. Darrin Willard, FFAH Executive Director is quoted as saying, “This property will serve very low-income tenants, the ones who need it the most. We built this because the people who build, serve, and sustain a community deserve to be able to afford to live in it.” FFAH Co-Founder Deb Willard spoke to how quickly La Pine has grown and how few housing options have kept pace for residents.

The piece touched on the partnerships that made the property move-in ready, including Furnish Hope, which is supplying furniture and household essentials for residents, and County Commissioner Phil Chang.
